Designs approved for $4.1 million renovation at J. Fred Johnson Stadium
Kingsport's Board of Education has approved designs for a $4.1 million expansion and renovation to J. Fred Johnson stadium.
The plans include about a thousand extra seats, renovated restrooms, concession areas, more handicap accessibility, even a new press box for Dobyns-Bennet football games.
The city of Kingsport will consider funding options for the project.
City manager, John Campbell, said most of the improvements are long overdue.
"We would say that at least $2.5 million of the work that's involved in the [project] is really corrections that should've been made at any time over the last 40 years really," Campbell told News 5.
The Kingsport Board of Mayor and Alderman will also discuss the construction timeline among other details.
The J. Fred Johnson stadium is also used for community events like Fun Fest.
