Some Eastman Credit Union members have reported receiving scam text messages requesting card information.
Eastman Credit Union (ECU) officials say these messages did not come from ECU.
This is a form of phishing which is a criminal practice hoping to get you to provide your card information. ECU computer systems have not been compromised in any manner. Here is an example of the fraudulent message:
"Eastman C U Alerts: Your debit-card starting with 429413 is DEACTIVATED. Please call xxx-xxx-xxxx."
If you did not call the number and provide the requested card information, your card information is secure.
If you did call the number and provide your card information please contact ECU immediately by calling 1-800-999-2328 and choose option 7 and then option 1 to have your card blocked. Please notify ECU during business hours to order a new card.
If you receive such a text message, do not call the number or reply to the text. Never give out your personal information in response to an email or text. If ECU suspects fraud on your account, we will only ask that you confirm the last 4 digits of the card number. ECU will never ask for the security code from the reverse side of your card.
