Five eastern Kentucky miners that were laid off filed lawsuits against a Tennessee-based coal company and two of its subsidiaries.

The miners claim the company is refusing the pay them.

The miners filed the lawsuit in Letcher County, Kentucky's court against Blountville, Tennessee based United Coal Company. They also filed lawsuits against the company's subsidiaries in Whitesburg, Kenutcky, Sapphire Coal, and Big Rock, Virginia based Wellmore Coal.

The suit says the employees signed a "Loyalty Reward Plan" that offered early payments of deferred compensation for layoffs of closings.

Again, those workers say they were not paid what the contract promised them.
