A Virginia city and county are at odds over sales tax revenue after a recent decision by the governor to pull an amendment detailing a development project at Exit 5.
We've learned this legislation would allow Bristol, Virginia to collect a portion of the state sales tax to pay for The Falls development.
But recently, Governor Bob McDonnell has left the decision up to city and county leaders when it comes to collecting money, as well as an equal playing field for new business.
"We know that if The Falls is successful, it will be successful for Washington County as well. Our main problem or issue was allowing Bristol to poach commercial industry entities from Washington County," said County Administrator Nadine Culberson.
Bristol, Virginia city leaders tell us while the decision is disappointing, work continues to move forward with The Falls project as planned.
