Christmas tree care tips
If you do purchase a live tree this year, it's important to make sure you take care of it.
Experts say you should keep pets and small children a safe distance away the tree and make sure it gets plenty of water.
“The biggest danger is fire," says tree vender Marc Pillar. “If you let your tree dry out then you have to worry about letting your tree [catch fire] and losing all the Christmas gifts in your home. The other is tipping over if you have something low on one side or children or a pet tip it over."
When purchasing a natural tree, officials say cut one half inch off the trunk to allow the tree to soak up more water.
Keep heat sources away from the tree to prevent it from drying out.
When decorating the tree, use only UL-listed light strings.
