Race fans are already pouring into town along volunteer parkway the last few days. While fans head into town for the race, local restaurant and shop owners head to their suppliers to get extra supplies to meet the demand a race week crowd is guaranteed to bring.
"This is our fortieth race so we pretty much know what we need and what we sell most is sandwiches,” Business owner Larry Slipek said. “We just have to stock up and make sure we have plenty of lunch meats. Sandwiches are 80 percent of the business."
Vendors we spoke with say the fall race brings more business to their establishments because fans tend to stay in town longer than they do for the spring race.
