The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are attempting to identify two women who were killed after being hit by a train.
According to Captain Rod Farley, neither of the women were carrying identification when they were hit by the train Sunday shortly before four a.m.
According to police, the women were hit on the tracks near an apartment complex, several small businesses and an elementary school.
A CSX train was on its way to Bostic when the engineer thought he saw someone sleeping on the tracks.
Police say the engineer applied the emergency brake and sounded the horn, but the victims were still struck by the train. Both women, whose bodies were found under the train, were pronounced dead at the scene.
