Let the summer fun begin at Bays Mountain. The park is open again after recently closing to fix a section of Bays Mountain Road.
We’ve learned construction along the road is almost complete.
The $500,000 project to fix the road's erosion problem will take about another 60 days to finish completely.
The park may have to close periodically but not for extended periods of time.
Chris McCartt, assistant to Kingsport’s city manager, said ultimately it could prevent road closures in the future.
"We feel like long term this is not a band aid. This is a complete fix, and so we're very pleased with the design and the construction that we've seen thus far and our ability to maintain that road structure for many, many years to come,” McCartt told News 5.
Any future park closures will be posted on their website.
