BRISTOL, Va./Tenn. -

The oldest women's charitable organization in Bristol has just wrapped up a fundraiser.

It's aimed at helping educational programs at The Birthplace of Country Music Museum.

We’ve learned The Blue Stocking Club organized a concert on April 6, 2013 at The Paramount Center for the Arts.

This was the largest fundraising effort in the club's history.

Board chair John Rainero says museum officials are ecstatic about the end result. "They amazed us all of the level of detail and commitment that they put into it. They raised over $50,000 for the two education rooms downstairs,” he said.

Established in 1920, the Blue Stocking Club got their name because they used to pass the blue stocking around to take donations at their luncheons.
