Pointer Jeans Makes Big Donation To Shelter
POSTED: 5:52 pm EST December 2, 2011BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Here's a follow up on a story we did earlier in the week about the employees of the Pointer Brand Jeans manufacturer located in Bristol.
The employees had been collecting money for food and other items for the Sullivan County Animal Shelter. Friday the donations were given to the shelter and we're told they collected quite a bit -- enough to fill a trailer for the shelter.
The county shelter and Kingsport recently combined as a non-profit so the donation was much appreciated according to shelter employee Shelrich Crino. "We're a newer group that just started July 1 as a non-profit," Crino said. "We're just getting our feet on the ground and it's really nice to have the community support and the outpouring of donations."
As quickly as the donations were given the employees began another campaign for next year.
In a funny twist, after the original story aired the other day the ladies in the office at Pointer got dozens of phone calls wanting to buy a dog apron, like the one featured in the story.
Not one to turn away business, the company that has made Pointer Jeans for almost 100 years has decided to make and sell a limited number of dog aprons. They started working on the first run Friday.
The full-length apron is waterproof on the front side and it will keep you dry while you wash your dog.
They are only making a limited number, so if you want one, you need to call Pointer Jeans or drop by the main office on Seventh Street.
The company will gauge the response and then decide if they will continue production.
