New Smyth County Sheriff's Office Moving Along

POSTED: 5:22 pm EDT September 29, 2011
The Smyth County Sheriff will have a new home soon.

Demolition of a building just off of Interstate 81 in Marion is the first step in moving the headquarters for the law enforcement agency.

The building is being torn down to clean up the property around two buildings that have been purchased by the county. The largest building, an 11,000 square foot facility, will house the sheriff's offices along with the 911 center.

County officials began taking bids Thursday to see who will build the new offices. The work should be completed by April or May of 2012.
