Tennessee And Virginia Speaking Out Against A Popular Website
Authorities say adult services section of Craigslist filled with prostitution ads.
POSTED: 4:49 pm EDT September 2, 2010UPDATED: 12:57 pm EDT September 3, 2010KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The state attorney's general in both Tennessee and Virginia are asking Craigslist to shut down it's adult services section.
Authorities say that section of the site is filled with ads for prostitution, some of which are posted right here in the Tri-cities. The ads are something Kingsport Vice Detectives monitor weekly.
They tell us they read each listing, looking for key words that usually indicate it's an ad offering sex for money.
"A lot of times they'll post a need help with car payment or something like that. That usually leads to prostitution."
Craigslist insists that adult services ads are screened by an attorney before being posted, but authorities say that process simply isn't working. Attorneys general in a total of 17 states have asked the site to remove it's adult services section.
