Maryland has become the latest state to ban the death penalty. Check out which other states have done away with capital punishment.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley signed a bill Thursday repealing the death penalty, making it the sixth state in as many years to ban capital punishment. The legislation goes into effect Oct. 1.
