Maggie Smolka

Maggie Smolka graduated Magna Cum Laude from Emerson College in Boston with her B.S. in Journalism, and then joined the News 5 WCYB news team in the Tri-Cities in July, 2015.

At Emerson, she served as the president and co-news director of her school's award-winning college television station, WEBN. During her time as president, the station took home the AP college news station of the year. 

Maggie has covered national events like the 2009 presidential inauguration, the Primetime Emmy Awards, and the 86th and 87th Academy Awards. She also covered breaking news stories such as the Boston Marathon bombings, Aaron Hernandez trial, and snowstorms Nemo and Juno.

Maggie was a newsroom intern at CNN, WCVB-TV, and 90.9 WBUR, Boston’s NPR affiliate station. She was also a production intern at The Rachael Ray Show and Antiques Roadshow

Maggie is a recipient of a National College Television Academy Award, two Boston/New England Student Awards for Excellence (NATAS), and multiple AP awards for reporting and producing.
