Songwriters find inspiration in many places, but often times the best muses turn out to be the people in their lives. Here are just some songs famously inspired by other people.

In November 2105, Carly Simon revealed to People magazine that the second verse of her 1972 song "You're So Vain" is about former love Warren Beatty, but stayed mum on the men who inspired the other two verses of the song, long the source of rumors and gossip. Before her Beatty revelation, Simon had steadfastly refused to say who she wrote the No. 1 hit song about. While Beatty had long been one of the most popular guesses, others have speculated the song's verses could be about James Taylor, Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, David Bowie, David Cassidy or somebody else.
