(CNN) -

We'd heard last June that Charlize Theron was in the process of developing a more contemporary take on "Hatfields & McCoys," and it seems like her effort is one step closer to airing on TV.

According to Deadline, NBC has ordered a pilot of the modern-day version of the infamous feud, which was created by "Eagle Eye's" John Glenn and produced by Theron.

Set in Pittsburgh, the drama will follow the working class McCoys as they move to take control over the city, potentially endangering the Hatfields power and wealth along the way. A death will set off the feud once again in the present day.

Word spread that the updated "Hatfields" was in consideration after the History Channel aired its TV miniseries version last spring, which was a massive hit for the network. When the first night of "Hatfields & McCoys" aired in late May, it was watched by 13.9 million.

Unsurprisingly, the History Channel is now eyeing a reality show version of "Hatfields & McCoys," focusing on the descendants.
