About The Tri-Cities

At-A-Glance

DMA Population: 755,000
Primary Cities: Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City
Colleges: 5

The Tri-Cities is composed of the three cities Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson City and the surrounding areas in northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. The city of Bristol, Tennessee has a twin city in Virginia; State Street, in the heart of Bristol, lies on the border between the states. Our station is located less than a block from this unique landmark.

The three major cities of the area are each known for their own unique reasons. Kingsport, the largest city of the three, is the location of Eastman Chemical Company, a large plastics and chemical manufacturer formerly associated with Kodak. Johnson City is the home of East Tennessee State University, the fourth-largest university in Tennessee. Bristol houses one of the most popular NASCAR venues and is also known as "The Birthplace of Country Music" due to some of country music's earliest recordings being made locally with such artists as Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family.
