Vintage Sale At The Theatre
POSTED: 5:12 pm EST January 27, 2012UPDATED: 3:36 pm EST February 1, 2012BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Earlier this month we told you of a local theatre looking for items to replenish their prop closets and wardrobe collection.
Now, we have a story of another theatre that just has too much stuff.
We all have a cluttered closet somewhere, but nothing like the third floor of Theatre Bristol. For years they've been accumulating all kinds of things needed for their productions, and that includes just about everything. So they decided it was time for a little spring cleaning in the middle of winter.
"When you find you have a footpath that is the only thing separating you from all the junk, you realize it's time to do a little house cleaning," Katherine Bowman with the theatre said.
This may really be a case of one place's junk is another places treasure and with the rage of vintage clothing and the retro look, you'll find it here. "The things that are here are things that have come back into fashion recently. They'll go out for a little while and come back. We have a collection of vintage ties here that I see many people using for sewing handbags and skirts and purses and vests so there's a lot to be had to be used in many ways," she said.
It is a huge collection that has to be seen to be believed. Like a dentist chair, old typewriters, a lots and lots of hats. And how about a Marilyn Monroe or Superman standup?
"We have two enormous building there that are full to brim with things that we've been storing for years and years that we would like to find happy homes for somewhere else," Bowman said.
And what's assembled in the theatre will change as the sale continues because there's just more where that came from.
"We have enough in this theatre to probably host the same sale every weekend for the next six months and still not be out of material," she added.
The vintage sale is a two fold project, a chance to clean house a little bit and a way to raise money for the theatre.
