Virginia Unemployment Rate Is At A Low
The Virginia employment commission says the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January was 5.8 percent. That?s down from 6.2 percent in December, and down from 6.4 percent in January 2011.
Virginia?s rate is still below the national average, which dropped to 8.3 percent in January. With the unemployment rate so low, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and Lt. Governor Bill Bolling used the decline as a chance to tout the administration's successes in economic development and job creation.
Both toured the James River Air Conditioning plant Tuesday morning. Both men say the drop is an indication that the Virginia economy is now growing again, and jobs are being created.
