 Velden grew up in West Virginia, graduated from Concord University, interned with WTAP in Parkersburg while in college, and began his career as a reporter with WVVA-TV in Bluefield, West Virginia. After reporting on stories ranging from the Virginia Tech shootings to the Cucumber mine disaster during his two years at WVVA, Velden joined the News 5 Team in March, 2008.
