Number Of Tri-Cities Homeless Growing
The number of homeless people living in Tri-Cities continues to grow.
The Appalachian Regional Coalition on Homelessness conducted a point in time count on Friday. The count is a 24-hour snapshot of how many homeless people crews can reach in a day.
The exact number has not yet been tallied, but officials say it will be in the hundreds. Based on the number of people turning to local agencies, officials say the true local homeless count is in the thousands.
"Lots of single parents, moms and dads with children living in cars, staying wherever,? said ARCH Executive Director Dreama Shreve. ?Shelters are full. All programs that help families have waiting lists."
ARCH officials say based on the preliminary results of the count, the largest growth seems to be in Bristol and Kingsport.
