GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. -

UPDATE 11:05 a.m.: Tennessee Highway Patrol says the victim was 12 years old.

Our crew on the scene says the boy was trying to board the bus when he was hit and killed. It happened in the 400 block of Holder Road.

The boy's older sister was on the bus when the accident occurred. It was the first stop of the day for the school bus.

The bus has been taken to the Greene County scales while the investigation continues.

UPDATE 9:45 a.m.: We've learned a sixth grade boy was hit and killed around 7 a.m. along Holder Road between Snapps Ferry Road and the Kingsport Highway.

Emergency workers tell us the child was a student at Chuckey-Doak Middle School.

The boy apparently died from massive head injuries after being struck by the bus.

9:30 a.m.: Breaking news into our newsroom at this hour -- we've learned a child has been hit and killed by a school bus in Greene County, Tennessee.

We're still working to gather the facts, but we do know the accident happened around 7 a.m. along Holder Road between Snapps Ferry Road and the Kingsport Highway. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
