The weather is getting more comfortable as many of us are getting back out to do some fishing. As we said last week, the fish don't care. Their world doesn't change very much. Some folks have been doing pretty well during the cold spell. Check out this largemouth bass that Jeremiah Carr of Church Hill, Tennessee caught in Cherokee Lake. It weighed five pounds , seven ounce. He caught during the the Morristown 25-E Tournament on New Years Day. TVA has been cutting back on the water flows down the South Holston and Watauga tailwaters this week enabling the wade fishermen to get back in the water. Blue Wing Olive hatches are happening. Otherwise fish those Pheasant Tail Nymphs Scuds and other nymphs in the deeper runs. Upstream, it the little bitty stuff. Black flies, Zebra Midges, Copper Johns and Brassies. In other words, winter time fishing. The trout are relatively dormant in those very cold mountain streams. Bass fishing hasn't changed very much. The surface water temperatures are down into the low 40s. Typical winter fishing. Try the float and fly or tight lining small jigs. Tip that tiny jig with the Berkley Gulp Tiny Minnow. There is also some action on jigging spoons and Silver Buddies. These methods work pretty well in just about all of our lakes. Look for lots of of folks out there getting rid of all that cabin fever.
