State health officials say they've sent a total of 1.2 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine to Virginia sites.
Health leaders say while influenza-related illness has fallen to 5% of visits to emergency rooms and urgent-care centers, there are many people who are ill and 27 deaths have now been reported statewide.
Shipments of the vaccine went out this week to colleges and universities.
Influenza cases reported this fall are typically H1N1 because samples taken from patients haven't detected the seasonal flu virus yet.
